While pursuing her Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Beatriz started her teaching career as a Spanish as a Second Language instructor, and as a teaching assistant in English writing and composition and American Studies classes. Later, Beatriz relocated to Puerto Rico, where she taught Spanish language and literature classes at the University of Puerto Rico. Then, she transitioned to high school, where she has 17 years of experience teaching English language arts and literature. She is also a freelance editor, translator, and writer, and she has 20 years of experience working freelance for peer-reviewed journals, magazines, and publishing companies. She has published in academic journals, such as Sargasso, newspapers such as Dialogo Digital and Claridad, and digital magazines such as Revista Cruce. She was the vice president of the Editorial de la Universidad de Puerto Rico board from 2018 through 2022.
