Our Approach to Learning

At Oxford Academia, learning is an immersive and transformative educational experience. With programs held at three world-renowned institutions—Oxford University, The American University of Paris, and Yale University—we combine rigorous academics, hands-on exploration, and cultural enrichment. Whether studying history, science, literature, or the arts, students have the opportunity to engage deeply with their passions while discovering new ones. Guided by expert faculty and surrounded by peers from around the world, students leave each program with a profound sense of achievement and inspiration.

The Oxford-Cambridge Tutorial System

The Oxford-Cambridge tutorial system is a hallmark of academic excellence, offering a highly personalized approach to learning. Through one-on-one or small-group sessions, students engage directly with expert tutors to discuss ideas, analyze material, and receive tailored feedback on their work. This rigorous system emphasizes critical thinking, intellectual independence, and active participation, helping students develop the confidence, analytical skills, and adaptability needed to excel academically and beyond. Renowned for fostering deep understanding, the tutorial system is central to the academic experience at both universities.

Seminar Structure

After breakfast, students dive into their major seminar, which begins in classrooms, labs, or meeting spaces, then often ventures out to local historical sites or museums, or includes visits from guest experts. After lunch taken independently in small peer groups, students head to their minor seminars or afternoon activities. Afternoons and evenings offer opportunities to explore the city, pursue their interests through elective workshops, and take part in exciting extracurricular activities.

After dinner, students and faculty from all seminars convene for evening activities, which may include hearing a special guest speaker, taking in a play or concert, or attending a Q&A session on the college admissions process. Students spend a total of 30 hours in their major seminars and 10 hours in their minors, and receive a Certificate of Completion at the end of the program.

Outside the Classroom

Learning extends far beyond the classroom in all our programs. At Oxford, students walk the halls of medieval colleges, explore museums, and engage with the city’s rich history. In Paris, the city itself becomes the classroom, with opportunities to study world-class art collections, landmarks, and neighborhoods rich with cultural and historical significance. At Yale, students explore the university’s iconic campus and New Haven’s vibrant community, gaining insights into American history and innovation. These out-of-classroom experiences are integral to our programs, building connections between academic study and real-world exploration.

Outcomes

An Oxford Academia experience leaves students with more than just knowledge—it equips them with the skills and mindset to thrive. By engaging in challenging academic work, participating in cultural immersion, and forming lifelong connections with a global community of peers, students develop intellectual curiosity, independence, and resilience. Whether studying at Oxford, Paris, or Yale, graduates leave with a renewed sense of purpose and a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them, carrying these qualities forward into their academic and personal pursuits.
