While at Dartmouth, David was active in the Outing Club, founded an a cappella singing group and played ultimate frisbee. His love of languages, sparked through study abroad in Siena, Italy, has proven to be a life-changing experience: he now holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Italian studies, is Professor of English at the University of Siena, and is regular collaborator with international education programs. He continues to blend his professional life in Italy with hometown visits to Mobile, AL. Among David’s formative experiences as a student, summer jobs on organic farms in Sicily and Tuscany nurtured a deep conviction in sustainability and the connection between food and social justice. These aligned with a deep curiosity in rural and traditional cultures, part of graduate coursework in Italian folk music and dance. An avid hiker, singer in local Renaissance choirs, swing dancer, foodie, and polyglot, David loves to share his passion for meaningful travel, sustainability, and history with others.
