Today was another great day for our majors. The French Majors had a wonderful time in a French immersion oil painting class. Meanwhile, the Creative Writing Majors gathered in the kitchen of Le Pavilion des Canaux to write poems. Afterwards, they took a break by the canal, enjoying cookies and reading at a nearby cafe.
In the Law and Society class, the students engaged in a discussion about the construction of the EU as a political and economic space. They delved into topics like the European Parliament, the Brexit, and the Euro. Moreover, they explored the differences between Europe and the US in terms of legislations concerning central and federal authorities, and the session concluded with a Q&A.
For lunch, they joined History’s Secrets and then spent the afternoon working on their final projects. The projects covered various subjects, such as the Geneva Conventions and International Criminal Court, the UN Security Council and the Necessity for Reforms, and the Versailles Treaty and the League of Nations.
Moving on to the Culinary Streets of Paris course, students engaged in lively French conversations at Le Pavillion des Canaux, followed by a delicious lunch at a bouillon, and a patisserie class.
The Business course had an interesting day touring Versailles after a classroom discussion about how a state can influence markets and the broader economy. They also compared the French and American systems and histories.
In Paris and the Creative Imagination, the morning was dedicated to working on fashion designs, while the afternoon involved a visit to the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art and the Museum of Hunting and Nature. There, the students explored ideas of hyperrealism in art and fiction through photography.
On the other hand, the Art History majors had an enriching day starting with a visit to the Palais Galliera to study the history of fashion. They then headed to the Marais to study 17th Century Architecture and concluded the day with a tour of the Petit Palais, focusing on 19th Century Paintings.
We concluded the day with a thought provoking conversation about art history and Parisian flare by art historian, Ralf Marsault.
