In this four-week seminar, explore the science of the mind and behavior through a deeper investigation of what shapes who we are and how we act. Begin with the foundational goals of psychology to describe, explain, predict, and influence behavior, then move beyond to study major schools of thought including behavioral, cognitive, biological, and sociocultural perspectives. Examine the ways personality develops, how memory and emotion influence decision-making, and how identity is formed through family, culture, and experience. Engage with psychological research methods by designing and interpreting small-scale experiments, analyzing case studies, and evaluating how evidence supports or challenges different theories. Study the biological underpinnings of mental processes and explore contemporary topics such as motivation, resilience, social influence, and mental health. Through interactive discussions, media analysis, and reflective projects, connect psychological theory to your own life and to pressing questions in today’s world. By the end of the course, students develop a richer understanding of human thought and behavior and the critical thinking skills to apply psychological insight to real-world challenges.
