Led by a practicing physician or professor of medicine, this in-depth seminar provides a comprehensive exploration of the medical field, from foundational anatomy and physiology to the evolving frontiers of modern healthcare. Over four weeks, students study the body’s major systems and investigate how they relate to areas of specialization such as cardiology, oncology, neurology, and public health. Examine major global health challenges, including cancer, diabetes, obesity, HIV, and emerging infectious diseases, while considering the scientific, ethical, and social dimensions of medicine. Through case studies, guest lectures, and hands-on activities, gain insight into both clinical practice and biomedical research, and learn how new technologies and discoveries are transforming diagnosis and treatment. Students leave the course with a deeper understanding of medicine as both a science and a calling, and expand their critical thinking skills to engage with the complex issues shaping healthcare today.
