In this intensive four-week seminar, explore the forces that shape relations among nations and the frameworks that govern diplomacy in the modern world. Build on foundational concepts through lectures, readings, and case studies that examine topics such as human rights, global security, climate policy, and economic development. Engage in advanced simulations of international negotiations, draft position papers, and explore the strategic decisions faced by diplomats, policymakers, and international organizations. Analyze the influence of non-state actors, media, and technology on global power dynamics, and consider the emerging challenges that will define the future of global cooperation, from cybersecurity and migration to sustainability and inequality. By the end of the course, students will have developed the analytical and rhetorical tools to approach international affairs with the perspective of a scholar and the pragmatism of a policymaker.
